The purpose of this blog is to provide a digital record of my experiences developing my Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge (TPACK), so that I am able to effectively instruct 21st century digital learners.
My TPACK Journey
The technological knowledge that I learned from the experience of creating My TPACK Journey is more comfortable now than I have ever been with technology. I now have the technological skills to create Google drive presentations, embed them into blogs, create transitions and animations and properly be able to insert pictures and videos. At first when given this task I was very nervous because I had no idea how to complete it, but now it is just as easy as any other task that I can do. I feel very strong about including technology and creating eBook tools in my teaching because they are engaging, different, and allows students to have choice with their presentations. This allowed me to be creative with technology which I have not done before, and now having these skills I feel confident in teaching my students how to use eBook for presentations.
What I learned about using this activity type is that is how much creativity it allows students to use with technology. eBook allows student to be engaged in their learning and most importantly take ownership of their learning and their products of learning. When it comes to technological activity types such as the eBook for the end product of a Project-Based Lesson it is really beneficial for the students learning, it is the activity type and part of the consolidation of what they are learning. It gets students to present what they know to educate their colleagues. I would use eBooks in my own teaching especially if I was doing a Project-Based Lesson by introducing students to a topic, have students brainstorm subtopics and students to get into groups and go and research about their topic. What they find on their topic to present it in a activity type such as an eBook, or Prezi type of presentation. These activities are essential for students learning to display what they know and what they can show their colleagues in engaging ways as well.
The pedagogical strategies I learned about teaching students how to use eBook creation tools is the way that I learned. Students would be given simple tasks to work on creating their eBook each class by adding new slides, information, moving up to pictures, videos etc. The way I learned best is through structure but also through exploration. Students like to explore what some activities have to offer so allowing students to have choice over the look of their eBook but have to explore how to add to them to learn. Students learn by doing and not by me showing how to do it, by giving students step by step instructions and doing it on their own they will understand how to do it on their own. Exploration, engagement and choice are the ways that i would enable my students to create eBooks, and how to teach students how to create eBooks.
